Music Industries
In my first year of university I completed a Music Industries module. In this module my group and I had to create our own record label. We had to think of the genre that we wanted our record label to be as well as the name. We came up with 'Locked Out Records' for our name, but to ensure that we could use that name we had to check that no other record label had the name and we had to buy and trademark our name, so that nobody else could use it. We also decided that we wanted to be an indie record label, with indie/rock bands and artists. Then we looked around Birmingham and London for bands and artists and finally ended up signing people. 'The Kings Aces, Drowned Atlas and Callum Missen were our three bands/artists that we signed and then we had to organise and hold an event for them to perform. The concert was held at Un-Plug in Digbeth, Birmingham and we got a great turn out.
In my second year of university, we had to make a PR music company. My group came up with StreetStylePR and we worked with a grime artist called Frizk. We made a PR campaign for him, as well as getting his work played on local radio stations, including a BBC introducing radio station. My group also made a music video and a behind the scenes video for Frizk during our time working with him.
In my third and final year my group made an app for rock music venues and clubs around Birmingham called Rock out.
